Laurie Ann Burnett, FNP-BC, APRN

Laurie Burnett is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with more than a decade of experience as an advanced practice clinician and 30 years of service in the United States Army. She has extensive experience caring for patients across the lifespan and has practiced in a variety of culturally diverse healthcare settings.

Laurie earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), with a concentration as a Family Nurse Practitioner, from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. She and Dr. Sheila Medina completed their Family Nurse Practitioner education together in 2011, beginning a professional relationship that has continued throughout their careers.

Laurie’s clinical experience spans family medicine, primary care, correctional healthcare, and emergency medicine. In recent years, she has provided primary care for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and emergency care at AdventHealth and St. David’s healthcare facilities throughout the Central Texas region. These diverse experiences have strengthened her ability to care for patients with a broad range of acute, chronic, and preventive healthcare needs.

Laurie is currently completing post-master’s education as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Her advanced psychiatric training builds upon her experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner and further strengthens her whole-person approach to physical, behavioral, and mental healthcare. Following completion of her program, she plans to pursue national board certification in psychiatric-mental health.

Practice Philosophy

Laurie believes quality healthcare should be compassionate, respectful, and individualized to each patient. Her approach emphasizes listening to her patients, understanding their concerns, and working collaboratively to develop practical, evidence-based plans that support their health and well-being.

After 30 years of distinguished military service, Laurie retired from the United States Army and made the Fort Hood area of Central Texas home with her family. She values the opportunity to continue serving others through healthcare and looks forward to caring for individuals and families as part of the Heroes Healing Others team.
